Company: Prabhāvalī Arts

Bidesiya is a folk theatre tradition from the northern state of Bihar, India; originating from the Bhojpuri language play written by Bikhari Thakur in 1912. South Indian artistic traditions, Bihari traditions, West Indian culture, and a reclamation of ancestral ideals come together in Bidesiya, a beloved Bhojpuri Natakam adapted to the Bharatanatyam vocabulary for the first time.

K.H Kanna's interest in adapting this to Bharatanatyam arose from his research of the Indian musical styles still present in the West Indies as a result of the Indian Indenture System that relocated millions of Indians around the world to British, French, and Dutch colonies from the year 1829 to approximately 1917.
